We take a deep dive into what to include in your application to help wow our judges – Find out what you should include in your #WRA24 application.
The Women’s Recognition Awards is the biggest event of its kind in the industry, celebrating the impacts and achievements of women across the industry and championing the businesses and individuals who pushing for greater diversity and inclusion.
By applying, you are taking the opportunity to see your efforts recognised, which in turn helps to further inspire others. While this is exciting, we understand that it can also seem overwhelming – where do you start? How do you structure it? What will impress the judges?... This is why we’ve narrowed the process down to five key questions, which you can use to help make your application the very best it can be!
What motivates you?
Your application will have a much better chance of standing out if the judges know what it is that motivates you to keep striving to do your best and achieve incredible things in an industry still heavily dominated by men.
Whatever it is that you do in the industry, showcasing a passion for your role should a key factor in your application. Whether it’s being an exceptional adviser, bringing a fresh approach to the protection gap, or contributing to diversity and inclusion in your business, the industry, or in your local community, let the judges know why you’re doing it and let your love for your role shine through.
How do you help others?
It’s also important to consider how the work you do has an impact on the people around you, especially women and other marginalised groups in our industry. Some examples could include you increasing awareness of topics such as the menopause, pay gaps, or parental leave, pushing for more inclusive policies, or running a campaign.
Of course, there’s no one way to improve the industry. The Women’s Recognition Awards are about inclusion for everyone, so making the judges aware of how your work has an intersectional impact will be a huge boost for your application.
How have you worked well with others?
While everyone can work to have an impact on the industry, we also believe that it’s our collective responsibility to push for change together. It could be that you’ve led a team through a campaign or a project, mentored a colleague, worked with the local community, or actively shown your support for employees and customers from a range of different demographics.
Whatever you’ve done, bringing people together to make the industry a better place is likely to impress the judges!
What should I include?
Actions speak louder than words, and by using the upload form, you can attach PDFs and images to back up your application with evidence. As well as this, you can include testimonials and statistics to ground your application and make your impact tangible to the judges.
When should I submit by and how does it work?
The deadline for you to submit nominations and start your applications is 21st June 2024. Once this has been done, you’ll have until 28th June to make your applications the best they can be and send them in.
After this, your applications will be carefully reviewed by our panel of expert judges, who will curate a shortlist of finalists in each category. These will be revealed on 18th July, before our judges go on to decide who will take home the awards. The winners will then be announced at our awards ceremony on 22nd October 2024, held at the Roundhouse in London!
Ultimately, there’s no one way to write your application. Your best bet is to just be yourself. We know this might sound a bit cheesy, but the judges genuinely want to reward people for their efforts to make the industry a better place, so letting your personality shine through and coming across as authentic and honest in your application will only help your case.
